In 2013, Luis Rivera (26), a Mexican athlete / Long jumper, made an impressive jump of 8 meters 46 centimeters in Russia; beating local favorite, and imposing a new university world record. That same year he obtains a historic medal for his country at the world championships, and later receives the prestigious National Sports Award.In his senior year, Luis is now preparing to become the first Mexican with a doctorate degree to participate in the Olympic games. But Luis' fame had preceded the glory.In 2015, after qualifying for the Pan-American Games in Toronto, he participated with a big muscle tear. This was a huge setback for him and he needed to recover very fast to obtain the coveted Olympic pass to Rio 2016.For the athlete, who seeks to inspire a generation, his main challenge is to keep the focus and clarity of his principles before his brothers, who follow in his footsteps and with whom he shares the Olympic dream.In a twist on fate, his brother Edgar surprisingly qualifies to the Olympic games of Rio before his brother Luis.With a dedicated medical team and measured training Luis fully recovers and starts an intense season just months prior to the deadline, attempting the required jump of 8.15 cm. Unfortunately Luis best jump is of 8.14 cm; missing his dream for just 1 centimeter.In his time of disappointment Luis turns to his family for support and reassurance in order to get back on track with renewed goals. Luis was always certain that he was going to be in the Olympics battling for the gold medal. He did ended up going to Rio, but was in support of his brother Edgar, as a spectator, with his other siblings and the rest of his family cheering from the sideline.
