In recent years, there is a growing need to improve the reliability, efficiency, and functionality of electromechanical industrial systems so as to reduce the cost of industrial products produced and thus increase profit without reducing product quality. This can now be achieved with the application of new semiconductor devices, integrated circuits (microprocessors, digital signal processors (DSPs)), electric motors, new automatic control techniques, and, of course with the introduction of computers. Designed for introductory and advanced courses in industrial and power electronics; A hands-on guide to common issues faced by practicing engineers and technicians; Provides numerous solved problems reinforced by simulation examples using SPICE, PSIM, MatLAB, and Simulink. This book includes the following: Chapter 1 presents and analyzes the power semiconductor devices that are used in industrial electronic systems and specifically in power electronics conversion. Chapter 2 presents the various electrical circuit diagrams needed either to implement an electric device or to accompany an eclectic device for locating and restoring faults. Chapter 3 presents an introduction to electrical circuit analysis. Chapter 4 presents the power electronics converters: Rectifiers with diodes and thyristors (AC-DC), inverters (DC-AC), DC–DC, and AC voltage controllers. Chapter 5 presents the basic types of Operation Amplifiers, including the PI, PD, and PID controllers, and the basic Integrated Circuits. Chapter 6 presents the relays and the Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). Chapter 7 presents the use of microprocessors and Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) in industrial applications. Chapter 8 presents the Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. By SCADA systems, we mean any application that collects data on the operation of a system with the aim of first controlling and then optimizing it. Chapter 9 presents an introduction to fuzzy logic control. Chapter 10 presents the industrial electric motors and their respective control techniques. Chapter 11 presents the Electric Vehicle technology, which is compared to the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles. Moreover, the electric system of an electric vehicle is presented and analyzed, including their battery bank and their charging techniques. Finally, the electric motors for electric vehicles are presented with their respective control techniques. Chapter 12 presents the procedure of how to evaluate the power quality of an industrial plant, knowing the internationally recommended standards for voltage and current limits. Moreover, in order to improve the power quality of a system, solutions with passive and active filters are presented. Finally, the best practices for EMI mitigation and prevention are presented.
