Textbook in PDF format Vibration and noise are two interrelated terms in the field of mechanical engineering. Vibration is caused by unbalanced inertial forces and moments whereas noise is the result of such vibrations. Noise control or noise mitigation is a set of strategies to reduce noise pollution or to reduce the impact of that noise, whether outdoors or indoors. Noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH), also known as noise and vibration, is the study and modification of the noise and vibration characteristics of vehicles, particularly cars and trucks. While noise and vibration can be readily measured, harshness is a subjective quality, and is measured either via “jury” evaluations, or with analytical tools that can provide results reflecting human subjective impressions. Content Coverage Chapter One presents the basic concepts of noise and vibration. Chapter Two covers the vibration problem and control modelling. Chapter Three describes the concept of noise sources and effects of noise pollution. Chapter Four presents an emphasis on focus on noise-control strategies and noise reduction. Chapter Five emphasizes on free vibration of single-degree of-freedom systems. Chapter Six focuses on noise source and noise reduction techniques. The fundamental mechanisms of noise sources are discussed, as well as some examples of the most common machines used in the work environment. The following are the salient features of the book: Deals with industrial and automotive noise and vibration, their measurement and control. Topics are logically arranged according to the course outline of the subject. The use of simple language to facilitate a better understanding of each chapter. Illustrative examples of varying difficulties, wherever needed, are presented to enhance the interest of students. The provision of knowledge check test for each chapter is given at the end of chapter to strengthen the learning process of students. Case Study, Role Model, Keywords, and Examples are also provided to enrich the knowledge of students
