After studying English at the University of Warwick and later at King’s College London, Alice Katherine Martineau began modelling and performing in London clubs, where she gained experience that led to a recording demo. In late 2002 she signed with Sony Music and released her debut single "If I Fall" on 11 November, followed by her album Daydreams on 18 November; the release was supported by a promotional preview CD and a music video filmed in Wraysbury. The album featured production from Marius De Vries and other collaborators, and the single entered the UK Singles Chart at a modest position. Sony planned a second single, "The Right Time", for February 2003, but cancelled it due to Alice Katherine Martineau’s deteriorating health. She remained on a waiting list for a triple heart, lung and liver transplant and died at home on 6 March 2003. A BBC documentary, The Nine Lives of Alice Martineau, aired shortly after her death, and her life inspired the novel A Song for Tomorrow (2017) by Alice Peterson.
